Speaking to media persons in Panjim today, social activist and Adv Diya Shetkar demanded a CBI enquiry into the complete functioning and business transactions of the Shiroda Urban Co-op Society, which was headed by former Congress MLA Subhash Shirodkar who recently switched parties and went over to the BJP.
Subhash Shirodkar was the chairman and his brother was the vice-chairman of the co-op society when the fraud was committed. Shetkar alleged that the society and its operators have committed serious fraud and other financial irregularities to obtain pecuniary benefit for themselves, while defrauding or putting at risk hundreds of poor depositors.
Alleging that loans totaling Rs 3 crore were illegally given to members of Shirodkar’s family and his relatives, Shetkar said she will move the Bombay High Court at Goa if the Goa government does not come clean on the functioning of the Shiroda Urban Co-op Society as it concerns the interests of hundreds of poor people who have deposited their monies in the bank.
