An under-production film titled “Saffron Terror” allegedly claims to reveal all the inside secrets and alleged terror activities of Goa-based, far-right Hindutva organisation Sanatan Sanstha, its offshoot the Hindu Janajagruti Samiti (HJS) and other right-wing radical outfits, operating in India.
The project was kept under wraps for the last six months as the makers felt that release of information regarding the project would result in its demise even before it could be born.
The film is produced by Trilok Mukhi Films and directed by producer-director Trilok Mukhi. Mukhi, an intellectual and a writer is a recluse and currently resides in London and is a UK citizen of Indian origin.
He lived in Ponda in Goa – where the Sanatan Sanstha is headquartered for four years, before moving to the UK and started directing films. He is also working on another historical film Pratapgad, which is moving at a snail’s pace.
The film “Saffron Terror” will be an eye-opener for both – civil society and the government. Fearing a government ban or wide-spread protests in India, Mukhi plans to first release the film abroad in the US and UK markets and only after that if the atmosphere is conducive, in India.
Speaking about the project Mukhi says:
“The film is based on true facts and real stories. It is not a work of fiction, Mukhi said, adding that truth hurts and many people including a lot of politicians will not want this film to be screened in India, as thousands of skeletons will tumble out of the closets of the Sanstha and the HJS.”
According to actor Kalyanji Jana who has been selected by producer-director Trilok Mukhi to play the role of the protagonist in the film the producer has done extensive research on the Sanatan Sanstha for the last 7 years.
The revelations and exposes made in this film will shock India and the entire world, Jana promises.
The film begins even before the inception of the Sanatan Sanstha and covers the following incidents or terror activities, allegedly associated with the Sanatan:
- In 2009, two Sanatan Sanstha workers, Malgonda Patil and Yogesh Naik, had died when a bomb they were ferrying to Margao city in Goa, where the Sanatan Sanstha is headquartered, accidentally exploded.
- Persons associated with the Sanatan Sanstha have been linked to the murders of noted rationalist Narendra Dabholkar and veteran Communist leader Govind Pansare.
- While anti-superstition activist from Maharashtra, Narendra Dabholkar, was shot dead in Pune in 2013, rationalist and communist leader Govind Pansare was killed in a similar manner in Kolhapur in 2015.
- Scholar and rationalist MM Kalburgi was murdered in 2015 at Dharwad in Karnataka and journalist Gauri Lankesh were shot in Karnataka in 2017.
- In September 2015, Sanatan Sanstha activist Samir Gaikwad, was arrested from Sangli in connection with the murder of Pansare. He was later granted bail by a sessions court in Kolhapur in 2017.
- The film script claims that Gaikwad’s lawyers allegedly got tremendous political pressure upon the judicial establishment to ensure he got bail.
- In June 2016, the Central Bureau of Investigation arrested Virendra Tawde in connection with the murder of Dabholkar. Tawde was an alleged western commander of the Hindu Janajagruti Samiti (HJS), an offshoot of the Sanatan Sanstha.
- Threats to the life of noted Goan writer Damodar Mauzo and other intellectuals.
The Sanstha has washed its hands off all the above allegations and claimed that if a member committed a crime, you cannot blame the entire organisation.
Drawing an analogy, a Sanatan Sanstha spokesperson said, “if a Christian priest in Kerala commits the offence of rape, you cannot blame the Pope. You cannot say the Catholic Church or the Pope encourages or teaches people to rape.”
According to the film’s publicist, “Saffron Terror” has actual scenes of the murders of rationalists and writers Dabholkar, Pansare, Kalburgi and Lankesh as well as scenes of the planning and training that went behind it all.
The director goes into details, revealing the planning and preparations that went into these murders, the publicist said, refusing to reveal the names of the other actors associated with the project, citing security issues.
The director of the film claims he has researched the Sanatan Sanstha for the last 7-10 years, since the time he lived in Ponda. Some Sanatan ‘seekers’ or ‘sadaks’ were my good friends. You can call me an “outstanding member” of the Sanatan Sanstha – a person who was an unofficial member, who never entered the precincts of the organisation.
“I had financially supported a few members – in their individual capacity – of the Sanatan Sanstha years ago, but when they told me that the organisation was moving in the direction of violence and terror activities to achieve its ‘lofty’ goals, I decided to move away,” Mukhi told IndiaScoops.com, adding that some senior members of the Sanstha are still in touch with him.
According to actor Kalyanji Jana, who is the narrator and main protagonist in the film and plays the role of a ‘seeker’ or ‘sadak’ and a senior member of both the organisations – Sanatan Sanstha and HJS, the film will reveal the dirty politics and terror plots of the organisations which claim to be working for the benefit of Hindus.
Speaking to IndiaScoops.com, Kalyanji Jana said: ‘No religion teaches us to kill – be it Hinduism, Islam, Christianity or Sikhism. Organisations like the Sanatan Sanstha and the HJS are killing machines. They are ruthless and go about their jobs of eliminating people with military precision. They have networks all over the country, with sleeper cells and fanatic volunteers who are ready to die for a superfluous cause, that possibly does not exist. They collect funds from people in India and abroad in the name of ‘saving Hinduism from western and Islamic influence’ but re-channel this money towards terror activity,” Jana said.
Like Green Terror or Islamic fundamentalism, Saffron Terror is a reality and the rest of India and the world must wake up to this harsh reality and take it on head-on or else it will grow into an unstoppable monster in the years to come, Jana says
Jana explains that the film is very well-researched and will reveal the true or inside story and hidden agenda behind the murders of Dabholkar, Pansare, Kalburgi and Lankesh and the other related terror activities of the Sanatan Sanstha and its associated outfits like the Sri Ram Sene and the HJS. He alleges that certain elements in the Shri Shiv Pratishthan Hindustan whose chief is Sambhaji Bhide are also associated with terror activities.
A spokesperson for Trilok Mukhi Films said the film is likely to be ready for release in January-February of next year.
Bhide was booked by the Pune Police in two criminal cases in connection with the violence near Bhima-Koregaon on January 1. He is considered close to PM Narendra Modi who has openly declared him to be his guru and source of inspiration.
When asked about Bhide, Jana says, the film also covers the Shiv Pratishtan and its covert activities.
The Sanatan Sanstha has time and again denied all the allegations made against it, claiming that it has no control over what individual members do in their personal capacity.
