Congratulating and praising Calangute BJP MLA Michael Lobo for fearlessly speaking out against the narrow mindedness and selfishness of certain leaders, Curtorim Congress MLA Aleixo Reginaldo Lourenco said:

“Michael Lobo is the only fearless BJP leader in Goa who has the courage and gumption to speak the truth and take on even his party bosses, including the CM when it comes to issues regarding the people of Goa.”

Reginaldo Lourenco was referring to Lobo’s statements on Friday where he is reported to have said that there is political unrest among the MLAs in the ruling coalition government led by Manohar Parrikar and that the administration in the state has totally collapsed.

“People have a lot of expectations, as promises have not been fulfilled and they are unhappy with the way things are progressing. The political situation in Goa is fluid and midterm poll seems imminent. It could be held simultaneously with the Lok Sabha election in 2019,” Lobo said on Friday, which was widely reported in the local Goan media.

Commenting on the defection of the two Congress MLAs Dayanand Sopte and Subhash Shirodkar to the BJP in lieu of plum postings in the corporations, Lobo said:

“MLAs have taken the people of Goa for granted. This should not happen. When elected, that MLA becomes the representative of that constituency and when the MLA resigns, people lose faith in the MLA. In a democracy there is a role of the Opposition and an MLA in the opposition must not leave his party. “

“In a democracy, there is a ruling side and an opposition. It is the duty of the opposition to highlight the issues of people. When people vote for a person of a certain party, they expect the MLA to stay in that party and not join another party, because that does not benefit the people. It only benefits the MLA,” Lobo told the Times of India.

Without taking names, he said the State BJP leaders are taking the people of Goa for granted and now things have reached a boiling point. Our party has become power hungry, but they do not want to work for the people. Our MLAs are after posts, but are not bothered about the frustration of the common man or the poor Goenkar.

The people are tired and frustrated with the BJP government and its apathy towards the people. We have tested their patience and their patience has run out. There could be an explosion any time, Lobo said.

Lobo slammed his own government stating that the government does not see the writing on the wall and hinted that either a few BJP MLAs could switch sides or the assembly could get dissolved.  The MLAs and the people are frustrated. Change is coming, he said without elaborating on what the change could be.

Lourenco praised Lobo for speaking out his mind. “He is speaking like a true Goemkar. The people come first and then the party or the CM. Lobo has done the right thing, by speaking out against the defection of the former Congress leaders Sopte and Shirodkar for their own personal gain,” Lourenco said.

Three weeks ago, Lobo, while speaking at a meeting of mining dependents at Azad Maidan, Panaji, had lambasted his own party for not doing enough to restart mining.

He had also said the administration was not working and that recruitment in the government had not taken place due to the ill health of the chief minister Manohar Parrikar who was then being treated at AIIMS, Delhi.
